WordPress 2.9

The blog has been easily updated to WordPress 2.9. All of the features available in this release are enumerated here.  Personally, I look forward to utilizing the OEmbed support.

For those of you using the Simple Tags plugin, the plugin complains quite loudly following the upgrade to WP 2.9.  Guidance on how to edit the plugin to allow it to continue to function without the nagging notification can be found here.  Basically, the WordPress version check that the plugin utilizes is extended to also allow version 2.9.

You can also download an edited version of the simple-tags.php file here. Right-click the preceding link, then Save Link As….

Happy Blogging!

  • As another week ends and a new one begins, I find that my weekend was absorbed with work.  Again.  Some unexpected outages and a planned outage wound up taking up most of my time yesterday.  For some strange reason, the last two weeks have been full of too much work.  Today was delightfully uncomplicated by work, but I still had a conference call to take care of this afternoon.  Once that was done, the CrackBerry was silent for most of the day.  For that, I am most appreciative.
  • The new grill cover for my Weber is (finally) on its way from Amazon.  I need to plan a large end-of-summer cookout, so look for that to happen soon.
  • I am finally done with the work on my nephew’s laptop.  I had to rebuild his laptop based on his hard drive going bad.  Fortunately, when I bought the laptop I bought the three-year warranty for parts.  Thus, his hard drive was replaced for free.  I spent most of the week reinstalling programs and such.  His AC adapter was also malfunctioning, and I also am getting a replacement part shipped out for that.  I have a new found appreciation for the online chat for Dell Technical Support.  It makes getting replacement parts so much easier.
  • I updated the blog (and some other blogs) to WordPress 2.6.  All is well on that front, and there are some nice management tweaks that have been done.  Take a look at “Plugins” compared to WordPress 2.5.x.

WordPress 2.5.1

In case you happened to have missed it, WordPress 2.5.1 dropped on Friday.  It is a release to address a security issue, and it includes over 70 other fixes.  The installation is, as usual, pretty easy.

Go download it, especially if you are running WordPress 2.5.

WordPress 2.5

Just upgraded to WordPress 2.5. As with all of my previous WP upgrades, this one was painless and quick. I like the new Dashboard interface, and I am most appreciative of the long-awaited upgrade of the visual editor.

Go get this upgrade.

WordPress 2.3.3

I have updated this blog and its underpinnings to WordPress 2.3.3.  There was a security problem related to registration-enabled WordPress installations, but I opted to update my installation as opposed to installing the security fix.

The upgrade is an easy one to perform, and I suggest you install it if you are a bit behind on your Wordpress maintenance.  Feel free to ask if you need some assistance.
