Weekend Arts & Entertainment

I took in a variety of various entertainment options this weekend with my better half.  It was a great way to spend the weekend.

  • Hot Tub Time Machine
    • On Saturday night, we took in the showing of Hot Tub Time Machine at the Landmark Harbor East.  For a nostalgic and hilarious look-back on the 1980s that is highly entertaining, go see this movie.  Rob Corrdry was the scene stealer in this movie, but the squirrel comes in as a close second.
  • Gertrude’s at the BMA
    • Brunch at Gertrude’s was tasty, and the menu had a delicious selection of good eats.  I had a cup of the Cream of Crab and had the Eggs Gertrude–a variation on Eggs Benedict with broiled crabcakes on the English muffin.  A delicious precursor to touring the museum.
  • Cezanne and American Modernism
    • Following brunch, we took in the Cezanne exhibit at the BMA.  The exhibit shows some of his works alongside those American painters where his influence was quite profound.  Again, a very enjoyable afternoon, with the exception of the rather loud (and new) audio tour guides used by other patrons.  Still, I recommend seeing the exhibit and also viewing the other items in the rest of the museum’s collection.

The Height of (My) Culinary Delights

While in Boston last weekend, my friends and I went to dinner at L’Espalier.  The restaurant is a favorite of my friend and his wife, and the rest of us went along for the recommended cuisine.

We partook in the Chef’s Tasting Journey, essentially a multiple-course meal prepared by the chef.  Some of us in the group partook in the wine pairings courtesy of the somelier.  The rest of us opted for what was before us.

The menu is below.

I will admit to enjoying good food, but I have to admit that everything on this menu was pretty tasty.  The desert was also quite good.  According to my friends who enjoyed the wine pairings, they were also quite good.  The entire meal took well over 3 hours, and I will merely say that it was quite expensive.  It was well worth it, though.

Mmm…Barbecue!

As I finally finished The Andromeda Strain,* I can now turn my attention to one of the great reasons for this time of year.  Yes, indeed, it is time to immerse myself in barbecue.  Specifically, thanks to the largesse of NPR Junky, I am now reading through The Barbecue! Bible by Steven Raichlen.

In the words of the immortal Homer J. Simpson, “Mmmm…..BBQ

Firing Up the Grill

On this Memorial Day, I am probably going to do the time-honored tradition of man bonding with fire, charcoal, and meat.  Like most men, I feel the clarion call of the grill, beckoning me to partake in the annual practice.  I am going to fire up the Weber for some burgers, dogs, and maybe some sausage.

In the interest of being friendly, any local friends and fellow bloggers who care to enjoy some grilled foods, I will probably get things started around 6 PM today.  Drop me an email or phone call, but I will need to get some dogs and sausages, some cheese, and some beer.

For others, Happy Memorial Day!  Here’s hoping you are enjoying it with friends, family, and others.
