Storm Geekery

I have already professed my enjoyment of my BlackBerry Storm in this and other forums.  One of the things I had yet to do–mainly based on my choice of Windows 7 as my primary OS–was upgrade the current operating system to one of the leaked OSes making the rounds on Crackberry.com.

I thought I had the problem licked, thinking the issue was Windows 7 aggressive power-saving features.  I had disabled all of the settings that turned off the USB connections.  I also made some tweaks on NTFS rights.  Neither seemed to resolve the issue.  The BlackBerry Desktop Manager just would not see the newer version of the BlackBerry OS that was available.

I pulled out my last resort, and booted into a small partition I am using for Windows XP.  There, the upgrade worked flawlessly.  I installed the new OS, restored my data, and then rebooted into my Windows 7 partition.  All is well.

Using these steps from Don Nguyen, I upgraded my Storm from 4.7.0.75 to 4.7.0.114.  I seem to like it thus far–it even seems a little peppier.  Here’s proof of my successful upgrade.

Sometimes, it’s hard being this awesome.
