Fortunately, I was busy at work today. Thus, I was unable to revel in the Apple-phoria that descended on the various tech sites around the Internet. Allow me to summarize:
OMGWTFBBQ!!!!11!! iPhone 3G!!! Faster!!! Cheaper!!!! It works with Exchange!!! It has GPS!!!!! It’s faster!!!! Apps and the App Store are awesome!!!! We also have a cool ad!!!!
Cue clapping at key points from audience members
While doing some other things around the home office this evening, I had Jobs’ keynote on in the background. I may heap disdain on Apple and its products, but Jobs is the consummate presenter.
My favorite about this–in typical Apple fashion–in just one year, the price of the iPhone has dropped precipitously. Hey, early iPhone buyers, you just got screwed again. Enjoy that shaft.

Actually Apple has maximized the profit from the iPhones. They got all the suckers….I mean early adopters with the first release, then the next wave of adopters with the first price drop, and now they are opening it up to a more mainstream of people who are willing to shell out $200 for a phone. That’s smart.
The one thing I did like to hear from today’s announcement was the price drop. I think I will be gifting of of these very soon. Luckily the recipient is already an ATT victim…I mean customer with a data plan.
Me, I’ll sit on the sidelines and wait to see how easy the new 3G phone can be unlocked, if it is fairly easy I might just get one to use on T-Mobile.

But when my employer shells out the $ for the phone (not the service tho), I’m not going to complain about being an early adopter. We did get the apple store credit for that first price drop at least.

@ Paul: T-Mobile won’t be able to take advantage of the 3G features because they haven’t implemented a 3G network in most of the US. I believe they are just getting started with the major metro areas, but it will be a while. They are really behind the curve when it comes to high-speed wireless.

@George: very true, T-Mob has been slow to embrace faster data speeds. But EDGE is still an improvement over my current GPRS phone.

@Paul: Once you’ve had EVDO, though, you will never want to go back to EDGE. Sometimes using my work-provided CrackBerry is just plain painful.

Question: do you “heap disdain upon Apple and its products” *while* listening to your new iPod Classic, or not?

@Satevis: My disdain-heaping occurs while I have the headphones of my iPod Classic jammed deep into my ears, listening to a podcast.
