The economic stimulus payments that were part of the legislation that Congress passed earlier this year started being mailed out and deposited into the accounts of taxpayers earlier this month. Yesterday, I received my stimulus payment via direct deposit to my bank.
Wow. The government wants me to stimulate the economy with $13.85. Looks like that will either buy me lunch or a couple of beers. Needless to say, my stimulating of the economy will be slight.

Hey – at least you got enough to buy lunch. I got nuthin from Uncle Sam.

Weird. I got the full $600.

@epiph: It’s based on Adjusted Gross Income. If you are a single tax payer and earn below $75k, then you get the full $600. If you make more than that for your AGI, then there’s a sliding scale.

I get nothing, because apparently none of my income is “earned”. WTF.

Alright, nice to be a teacher then. Thanks for the explanation.

If I was single I’d be f*cked. For once, having a wife (and kids) actually benefits my wallet. Thanks to China for loaning the USA the money to give me $1800.

I’m totally boned. I ended up owning money this year when I did my taxes so I’m getting nada. However, if I did receive it, I would buy myself an expensive bottle of scotch. That’s how I roll.

Hey, I got the $600, I’d be happy to give that to you if you wish to swap salaries, JJT!

@Paul, @Broadsheet: Indeed, damn our high-paying jobs.
@Carol: What “black market” sector are you in?
@SC: This is one of those all too rare moment when being married with children is a good thing. Though you won’t see me rushing out to do either. Hooray, China!
@Charm City Barfly: Actually, paying taxes have nothing to do with it. You merely need to file a return and meet the AGI number above. The only difference is when you filed determines when you receive your payment. So, you just might see it and be able to buy your expensive bottle of scotch.
@MalSnay: I think it is safe to say that a measly $600 will not get me to give up my salary. I would argue, however, that I kind of wish I got nothing. $13.85 seems to be too small and merit more in administrative costs than it was worth.

I wish I knew what the heck sector I’m in, because I’d love to get out of it. I guess when you own the business, you’re screwed all around. Sometimes it’s better to be the employee, ’cause then I’d be $13 richer.
Thank you, by the way, for sharing your $13 with me. I can now buy a loaf of bread, which will surely solve the country’s budget crisis.
