Working Hard for the Money

I certainly was under no illusions how much work I had in store for me with my new role at work.  Nonetheless, today was one of those days that was just a bit crazier than the norm.

I had a conference call at 8:00 AM this morning, and then I spent the morning taking care of the action items that came out of that conference call.  Add to that morning my usual assortment of other issues to address, and my morning was pretty much non-stop.

I had an hour-long meeting at 1:00 PM, and then I had a half-hour to prepare the responses that came out of my morning conference call that needed further review.  Once I had those items nailed down, I had to help a colleague with some grep work and had to devote some time to another support issue I had to address.

My day ended at the office with my lurking on a conference call on a reported problem with one of our applications.  I left when they were still attempting to gather more information, heading home to change and hit the gym since I skipped it this morning.  Of course, on my way to the gym, I get a call from work for an urgent change that needs to go in.  I spend about 10 minutes at the gym addressing that issue and addressing an incoming email concerning another deployment.

Following my workout, I then head home to remote into work and address some outstanding issues around the deployments that had to be handled this evening.  I was finally able to grab some dinner at my friend’s house while his wife was out of town.  Even then, I was not completely without work, as there was an email thread I responded to via the CrackBerry.

And with that day, I am off to bed to get ready for a new day.
