I have officially killed off pingbacks and trackbacks here on Baltimoremick. After receiving the latest in a string of annoying pingbacks, I decided to turn this feature off. You know the kind that begins with:
<Your blog name here> wrote an interesting post today on <Blog Post Title>
Here’s a quick excerpt <Your Content>
Thus, pingbacks and trackbacks are dead on my blog. They are not used nearly as much as they used to be, and this rash of link spammers that attempt to post part of your content just to get folks to click-through has been annoying at least.
So, here is my small attempt to strike back at link spam. Screw you, link spammers!

I’ve been getting a bunch of those, too…so I guess I’ll put the kibosh on trackbacks and pings. Bleh. DIE SPAMMERS DIE.

I got tired of dealing with them on my blog, and since they are unused, I got rid of them.

I have been trying to get rid of those. Is there any way to stop them on a Blogger account?

John: There should be an option in the settings of a Blogger account/blog to control pingbacks and trackbacks. Look for it somewhere in the comments settings. It’s not your site pinging out, but other sites pinging back. I will dig around and see if I can find something, as I have not had a Blogger account/blog in quite some time.
