It never ceases to amaze me to see how my fair city renames various areas and places in the city. The most obvious example is my neighborhood, Pigtown. It is known by the much more friendly moniker of Washington Village in various official documents. Pigtown just sounds so much better. There are other examples nearby, as the boundaries of Federal Hill creep into what was always South Baltimore when I was growing up.
A recent example of this was the article I read last week concerning the defeat of the Baltimore Development Corporation’s attempt to obtain property for redevelopment. The property was in an area known as West Covington, and I had to spend a moment trying to figure out where this area was located. Fortunately, the rest of the article shed some light on the subject. The area is below.
Just another way of confusing something I always knew as South Baltimore. I suppose the price of progress is confusion.
