Sweatin’ in a New Gym

After procrastinating longer than I wanted and continuing my various rants concerning my membership at the local Merritt Athletic Club, I finally ended my membership there and joined a new gym.  I am now a proud member of Federal Hill Fitness.

There is one disadvantage to my termination at Merritt, as I have to pay for another month.  Even though I am no longer in a contract, I still had to provide 30 days notice to terminate my membership.  Even in the end, Merritt still swiped at my pockets with their money-grubbing paws.  Presumably, if I had been aware of that, I would have given my notice earlier this year.   A bit of poor planning on my part, I suppose,

I am happy I made this change.  The gym has not been crowded when I have been there, so I no longer have to deal with the unwashed masses at Merritt.  I like the smaller physical size and proximity of FHF.  Finally, I like the staff at FHF, as they are just not as annoying as the staff at Merritt.

Hey, I totally agree with your views on Merritt (being a member there currently) but seeing as it is the closest, most decent gym near me (the only other is a Gold’s Gym on North Point that…okay, I’ll just stop there)I’ve kind of had to deal with the lackluster staff, and the lack of efficient gym equipment. It sucks. You try to cater and change up your work outs and realize that the gym you go to only holds its weight in pure hollow-ness versus actually having decent machines to work on.

I will have to look into FHF. Where is that located exactly?

I’m always hard pressed to thing of a bigger scam than gym memberships. Hope the change is good.

EJ: FHF is located on Cross Street in Federal Hill, just south of the Inner Harbor and downtown Baltimore.

acw: While I am effectively paying a premium for the ability to exercise, my previous weight loss is enough for me to say that it is a cost I am willing to bear. Sure, I could go outside and run, but there is an additional factor of cost that ensures I go. Of course, you would be the person who would find a tenuous link between gyms and pyramid schemes.

Merritt wanted to charge me 80 bucks a month for a membership. I thought that was ridiculous, but maybe that’s a competitive rate. I was too discouraged after that to do any comparison shopping….
