On Friday night, I saw Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Interesting movie, and as the reviews foretold, the violence was highly stylized. It was good, but I am still amazed that this rather dark musical came from Stephen Sondheim.

At least you understand that it’s Sondheim. Sure, Into the Woods is more upbeat, but it’s still highly twisted. He just is. He did Assassins, too, and that’s not exactly an upper.
