Last Day in Atlanta

My friend and I are relaxing at his place before we decide to do something fun for the day.  We have all day before the National Championship game tonight, so I thought I would write up some of my observations over the last few days.

  • The drive down here on Friday was not that bad, but there was an abundant amount of terrible drivers.  Apparently, tailgating in the Southern states has been raised to an art form.  Add to that the problem of drivers in the left- hand lane who refuse to move over, and the tailgating problem is downright annoying.
  • For some strange reason, the stretch of I-95 between Washington and Richmond was moving painfully slow Friday afternoon.  Northern Virginia is easily and evil place.
  • South Carolina is deceptively longer than you expect as you travel down I-85.
  • The drivers on I-85 in Georgia all drive like maniacs.
  • There were way too many Florida fans at the Georgia Dome on Saturday night.
  • Bojangles restaurants still exist.  In an alarming number, too.
  • I have been able to enjoy some good food.  Before the games on Saturday, I had some smoked ribs at Rolling Bones.  I had a surprisingly good calzone at Slice yesterday.  This morning, I had a nice breakfast sandwich from Radial Cafe.
  • The bars I have visited here are not that bad, but there is an interesting amount of attention paid to “high gravity”–high alcohol content–beers.  I think it is pretty funny, but that’s also because I am an experienced drinker from a town full of them.

Time to figure out what to do next.

Ah, but did you stop at a Stuckey’s for a pecan log? That’s a true Southern treat.

FYI - There are Bojangles in Maryland. There’s one on 301 somewhere around Upper Marlboro that we pass on trips to NC. We go that way to avoid the horrendous NoVA 95 traffic you mentioned.

And I am now officially back in town. 301 does indeed have a Bojangles, as I discovered on my drive back from Atlanta yesterday.
