In Search Of…

Well, the job search has been an interesting mixture of excitement and malaise.  Of course, I was not expecting to find a job immediately, but at the same time I did not think it would be the passive experience it has turned out to be.

One of the interesting developments has been a couple of my college friends who have mentioned some job openings to me.  One is still potentially open while the other is closed due to some corporate requirements.  Nonetheless, it is interesting that I have some interest for jobs well outside of Maryland–Boston and Atlanta.  Admittedly, I have nothing else keeping me here in Maryland aside from my home.  Most of my family is spread to other places, and I have no children or significant other keeping me here.  Additionally, I was always considered the guy who would not live in my hometown and wind up elsewhere in the country.   I sometimes spend late nights wondering if this is something I should do.  I love Baltimore, but I always wonder what could have been if I decided to go elsewhere.  Aside from the logistics involved, I may entertain the thought of moving onward.
I had a good meeting with a recruiter yesterday.  He shares the same opinion of my background and experience in that I can go in a number of different directions with my career.  We will see what fruit that bears.  I also had some additional contact with some other recruiters.  It is good to have friends of friends who are recruiters.

Today, I had a chat with someone hiring for a position that would potentially return me to my roots as a NetWare administrator.  That would be interesting, but the only mitigating factor I see there would be in getting my certification.  It was something I never did when I was at UMD, partly because I did so much with so many different things.  I am forced to return to the “jack of all trades, master of none”.  Nonetheless, there is no reason I could not get a certification.  I also have a couple of emails from some folks concerning some other positions.

Things are moving along, that’s for sure.
