There’ll Be Some Changes Made

Just a quick post before settling into some off-site work.

  • Weekend visit with the family was a good one.  The drive home on Sunday afternoon was interesting, but not as bad as I thought it would be.  Getting over the Bay Bridge, though, took much longer than expected.
  • Looks like there will be some upcoming changes on the employment front for me.  No news until it gets closer, but I am looking forward to a change that will make me happier and return me to my technical roots.  I had a good conversation with one of our partners about my job last week, and it turned out to be a good conversation.  I am kind of curious as to when our managing partner will talk to me about it, but who knows when that will happen.
  • My SSH tunnel has been working pretty effectively to circumvent the client’s website traffic filtering.  I still cannot get Outlook to work using RPC-over-HTTP.  From what I can tell, whatever firewall is in place is preventing Outlook from getting the packet establishing the connection.  I can get around it by using Outlook Web Access, but doing work email in a browser sucks ass, plain and simple.  I am just going to bother some network engineer here to let them know that there is no reason I should not be able to do this, pointing out that other users have no problem with this at all on their laptops.
  • My new desktop is set to ship on Thursday, and I cannot wait.  It will be nice to get the home office back to normal and get the rest of my music back on my MP3 player.  I will also be taking the Vista plunge with the new desktop, which I am sure will be interesting.

Yes, this management stuff is for the birds. I’m in the process of making a similar move.
