Ahhh, yes, what better things to do than to tidy up the workplace. The office is pretty quiet, and I am pretty much done the small items I needed to address.
One of the things I am doing is cleaning up my RSS aggregator/feedreader, FeedDemon. I haven’t done any pruning lately, and I have to admit that some feeds are just plain terrible.
Digg is a prime example of this. Most of the posts I get in its RSS feed are those items/articles that have been voted by the Digg community. For those of you who have been on the ‘net for a while, Digg is the new Slashdot. My problem is that most of the articles on Digg are fanboy articles. There is always some post about the site’s founders, something for the Mac fanboys, or some ludicrous article that has no business being “news.” I am just so tired of digg front page and how much the articles just suck. There are exceptions, but they are far and few between.
Slashdot, for all the problems with its community, at least has articles that are a bit more thought-out. At least that’s the impression I get.
Out with the digg!

I listen to This Week In Tech on a semi-regular basis, and Leo LaPorte has his tongue SO far up the Digg guy’s ass it’s nauseating.
Then again, as much as I enjoy TWIT, Leo kind of licks a LOT of ass. Whenever he has Steve Wozniak on, Leo practically butt-humps him on air.
And if he is not tonguing Kevin Rose, he is practically felatting Steve Jobs and Apple. I have listened to Leo before, and he does some interesting stuff. Nonetheless, there are moments when I wish I could reach through my MP3 player and just bitch-slap his pompous ass.
I used to check digg daily, if not more, a while ago. Like you, I can’t stand the site now. I think the biggest mistake they made was introducting political categories. Its been downhill at full tilt since then.
Wombat: I used to listen to TWiT as well. Its what got me into listening to podcasts. I liked the early ones where it was the original Screensavers cast getting together and just bullshitting about stuff. I stopped listening when it turned more into an infomercial and dvorak appeared on a more regulat basis then the screensaver people.
Digg, like slashdot still has the occasional good article, so I keep it in my newsfeed. But in general I agree with you it iis mostly just noise. And the Apple fan boy posts get on my nerves too.
Phil: Aside from the politics, there is the constant stream of a posting being made, then being corrected by another posting. As for TWiT, it was good when it was the original Screensavers. I don’t mind Dvorak that much, but the infomercial for Brand X that TWiT has become is annoying.
Paul: Digg just has too much noise. For some reason, and maybe it has to do with the screened nature of /., the articles don’t seem as noisy.
