Post-Holiday Doldrums

I have returned to the office following my incredibly brief holiday break. It is this time of year that I miss the week break I used to have while working at Maryland. I am now back in the office, and I know it will be a miserably slow week. Most folks are out of the office, so the office will be both quiet and incredibly boring. At least I am able to work on some other stuff.

  • Christmas was good. I got to see my family, and my gifts were of the monetary sort. This is good, as I plan to use the money to purchase a dining room table. Chairs for said table, however, are a another story.
  • Speaking of my family, they all suck. Damn them for telling me what they want for Christmas after the fact. ;-) I am now spending some of my time at the office shopping for late Christmas gifts for them. Next year, I will demand their lists by 1 December!
  • The Father of Funk is dead. I know I am late to the game since I decided to disconnect myself for the holidays. I was a little saddened though when I heard the news on WYPR when I awoke on Christmas morning. If there is one James Brown CD you must own, make it his 20 All-Time Greatest Hits! It has a nice selection of his early R&B and his classic funk tunes. I am still looking for a definitive selection of his funk songs, and I think I may have found it with Make It Funky–The Big Payback 1971-1975.
  • I was at least successful in one of the two fantasy football leagues I participated in.  Hooray for 3rd place!
  • I have something to do every night this week. Two days this week, I am leaving early. Holy crap, I’m booked solid!

As I’m sure you’ve also heard, Gerald Ford passed away last night. Since these things always happen in threes, who’s next?

As for The Hardest Working Man In Show Business (at least until 2Pac died), I have an album called simply “70’s Funk Classics” that has 11 of his classics. If you can’t get ahold of Make It Funky, this is a pretty good album as well.

Hmmm… you know what I want for a post-Christmas gift? Added to your blogroll. Seriously, dude….

    Ouch!

You know, nevermind… reciprocity is sooo overrated.

Yay! You’re the best Baltimore Mick I’ve ever known… no, really.

And you are being much too kind in your praise–which is truly unnecessary.
