So, here I am writing in a disconnected fashion (on Thursday afternoon) while I await for information to come back to me in the form of phonecalls and emails from contacts at this client. While I am waiting–and a long wait it has been–here are some things that I strongly dislike about this client.
- Office Placement
Apparently, someone thought it was a good idea to give the auditors the most uncomfortable office. I can only assume that this is an attempt to force the auditors to get their work done quickly and not be too much of a distraction from the work that gets done. It is the only explanation I can find for an office that has incredibly uncomfortable desk carols, incredibly old chairs, an older desktop computer that has Internet connectivity, and an uncomfortable temperature. It is so uncomfortable I cannot keep myself awake, much like my old office use to be in the winter. Even worse, they have 7 of us crammed into this tiny room. Ugh.
- Lack of Internet Connectivity
In this day and age, I find it unconscionable that a client site cannot provide all devices with Internet connectivity. I know the first answer of the network admin would be about the safety and security of the other networked devices on their network, but I would counter that any network admin worth their salt would have a separate VLAN to segregate the traffic from the visitors from their normal network traffic. (Apologies for the technical rant.)
- Travel
The client is located in Annapolis, and I must admit that commute–while not nearly as bad as my old commute to College Park–is just as bad in the morning. Considering that it is raining today, I do not look forward to the commute I have ahead of me this evening.
These gripes just seem to exacerbate my growing lack of enthusiasm to be an IT auditor.
