Running in Place

Yesterday I was working on-site in downtown Washington, DC.  I was harshly reminded of my distaste for that drive yesterday morning.  Even leaving at a decent hour, I spent just about 90 minutes in traffic on the way to the client’s office.  My drive home–leaving after 6:30 PM–still took just over an hour to get back to Baltimore.  When I have days like that, it always reminds me of what I disliked about the commute to College Park I had from Baltimore.

I was a bit Internet-deprived yesterday as well.  My Suse Linux laptop has decided that I cannot run Evolution, and Evolution was the preferred way for me to check my work email.  I think I am going to needlessly pull the trigger on the Alienware laptop I talked about last week.  Screw it.  Additionally, since I can never completely hang up the other hat I wear at the office, I was spending some time terminal-serving to the servers here at the office to address any issues that arose with the new hire that (naturally!) started the day I was out of the office.

Last night was another installment of Liquid Therapy, and for some reason I was really looking forward to this one.  The destination last night was the James Joyce Pub.  A good Irish pub, and naturally I could not pull myself away from the tasty Guinness poured there.  I even enjoyed their Irish Lamb Stew.  It was good, but the Joyce is a bit more pricey than I tend to like.  We then all retired to what has probably become my “home away from home,” Captain Larry’s.  For some strange reason, finishing the night with Mr. Boh until 2 AM seemed like a good idea at the time.  No hangover this morning, but I did not get to the gym this morning since I would have only had about 3 1/2 hours of sleep.

Thankfully, it’s Friday.  I get to get most of the work on the items I worked on yesterday behind me, and it should be a fairly light day.  After that, the weekend begins.
