The Advent of Reaganomics: 25 Years Later

While surfing the web on Friday, I was reminded that it was 25 years ago that Ronald Reagan was inaugurated as President.  I was also reminded by a report on NPR’s Morning Edition discussing the end of the Iranian Hostage Crisis shortly after Reagan’s inauguration.  I am still somewhat astounded by the fact that it has been 25 years, and I am a bit shocked when I think of how old I was when that happened.

The piece I read in the Wall Street Journal was an opinion piece that lauded the advent of Reaganomics.  There are parts of the opinion piece that I thought were stretching it a bit, but it is a pretty interesting read in its own right.  There is one part of the article that is correct, though: it decries the rather profligate rise in expenditures occurring under the watch of the Republican majority.  I have to completely agree with that, as one of the central tenets of Reaganomics was reducing government spending.
